Humanities Update

We are coming to the end of Esperanza Rising. The goal is to finish reading the novel by Friday, October 23. It is important that students read assigned chapters for homework so they are prepared for in-class comprehension quizzes, class discussions, and activities.

Students have analyzed characters’ responses to challenges and will analyze how Esperanza changes over time. In addition, students worked in small groups to analyze various metaphors in the novel. For the mid-unit assessment, students independently read and analyzed a new chapter in the novel, focusing on the challenges Esperanza faces, how she responds, and what that tells readers about her as a character.

This week's work will be focused on how Esperanza has developed as a character over time.
