Welcome back from Ms. Patrick and Ms. Pendse! Students have made tremendous progress in the past semester, and we are excited to continue this growth during the second half of the year! Over the next two weeks, 5th graders will be working on an integrated unit that encompasses reading, writing, and math. The premise of the unit is that students have been given 1,000,000 reais to donate to charities of their choice. They will research various charities and write a multi-paragraph opinion text explaining why they have chosen to donate their money to those specific charities. Our hope is that students will make connections to what they learned last semester in our study of Human Rights issues around the world. Throughout this mini-unit, students will learn valuable skills in research, note-taking, and writing multi-paragraph texts. Our mini-unit will end with students presenting their research and opinion texts to a small panel group.
Stay tuned for more information on our upcoming unit on research based argumentative writing and book clubs based on interpreting themes!
