Pumpkin Math

On Friday, October 31st, we will be having a Halloween parade throughout the hallways at 2pm.  At 10:25 in the morning we will complete a pumpkin math activity.  You may have seen this activity before.  Students will work in small groups to estimate, count, and measure a pumpkin. Then they will design a jack-o-lantern face and finally carve their design into the pumpkin. We need your help with this!

Here are some areas where we would really appreciate parent help:
· Volunteers to come in and help with the pumpkin math project: carving, scooping, working with a group of 3 or 4 students – it’s a messy (but fun) job Friday morning (October 31st) from 10:15 – 11:30 a.m. Please bring a sharp knife!
· We are also looking for parents to donate a pumpkin for our activity.  We would need about 6 pumpkins per class for this project. It works best if they are the larger, “American” pumpkins since they are much easier to carve.  We would need the pumpkins by the morning of the 31st, but earlier is also fine.

If you would like to volunteer for one or both of the above requests, please send a note with your child or send an email to the teacher.

Thanks in advance for your help!
